Black History Month 2022: Black-Owned Vegan Brands to Follow
February is Black History Month, so we’re dedicating this month’s Accounts to Follow post to black-owned vegan food businesses we love!
Check them out below, and be sure to give them all a follow and shop their goodies!
This vegan brand — founded by Ashley Rouse in her tiny apartment on Trade Street in North Carolina — creates low-sugar jams for cooking, baking, cocktails and more. Sure, strawberry jam is nice, but Trade Street Jam Co.’s flavors are next-level delicious. Strawberry Chipotle + Fig, Smoked Peach, Plum + Rose… is your mouth watering yet?
Are all great brands founded in tiny apartments? Golde was dreamt up by Trinity Mouzon Wofford and partner, Issey, in a Brooklyn apartment in 2017. They launched with one — very delicious — product and have since expanded their offering to include other superfood essentials, such as face masks and smoothie boosters.
Teamwork makes the dream work! If you need proof, check out the husband-and-wife duo behind Houston Sauce Co. The pair launched their special hot sauce in 2017 in various restaurants and food stores throughout Houston, and later that same year, they invested in a BBQ trailer. That took off about as quickly as their hot sauce, so they bought a food truck named Houston Sauce Kitchen, which offers a variety of vegan comfort foods, in addition to opening a storefront called Sauce Co. Shoppette.
We have a major sweet tooth here at Britteny Morgan Marketing, and Maya’s Cookies sure knows how to satisfy it! Founded in 2015 by Maya Madsen, Maya's Cookies sells handmade, gourmet cookies that are as delicious as they are unique. Forward-thinking flavors include Chocolate Chip S'mores, Drunken Grandma and Marble Fudge. The company even has a Black History Month collection that features cookies inspired by prominent black figures.
It wouldn’t be a proper roundup of tasty vegan treats without ice cream! Whipped Urban Dessert Lab, founded by Courtney Blagrove and Zan B.R. and located in New York City, is the world’s first oat milk soft serve shop. Can’t travel to NYC? Don’t worry, you can also shop their line of “ice crème” pints online! Strawberry Shortcake, Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie and Cinnamon Apple Crisp are just a few of the drool-worthy flavors on offer.
